GRAMMAR
POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS:
POSSESSIVE PRONOUNS express ownership or relationship. In
Norwegian, they have the following characteristics:
1) The possessive pronoun occurs most commonly after the noun.
ex.) mannen MIN (my husband)
2) The noun is in the definite form
ex.) mannEN min
3) The possessive pronouns "my" and "your" agree in gender and
number with the nouns they modify.
ex.) mannen MIN, kona MI, barnet MITT, sønnene MINE
mannen DIN, kona DI, barnet DITT, sønnene DINE
4) Occasionally, you will see the possessive pronoun in front of
the noun. When in this position, it emphasizes who owns the
object. The noun is in the indefinite form when the possessive
pronoun precedes it.
ex.) MIN penn MI klokke MITT hus MINE biler
It is also not uncommon to see the possessive pronoun place
in front of nouns for family members. Here, this placement
indicates courtesy/respect, rather than an emphasis on
ownership or relationship.
ex.) MIN mor MI kone MITT barn MINE sønner

Hei, jeg heter Sharon. Jeg er ikke så interessert i idrett, men
det er en som jeg liker ganske godt. Jeg liker å fekte. Fektning
er en veldig morsom idrett. Jeg har fektet i to år. Det er
mange fektningklubber her i Seattle, Washington, i USA. Jeg fekter
med klubben ved Universitetet i Washington. Det er omtrent ti
mennesker som kommer til treningen. Vi møter to ganger i uken,
på mandager og onsdager. Jeg synes at fektning er bedre enn
andre idretter, så jeg forstår ikke hvorfor det er så mange
flere mennesker som spiller fotball, basketball, baseball, osv.
